Milan Chakrabarty, MD, is board-certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and heads GI-Excellence in Hemet, California, originally the Hemet Endoscopy Center. Providing quality medical care has always been a priority for Dr. Chakrabarty.
He provides advanced interventional endoscopy expertise and is highly specialized in procedures to prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat complex conditions such as Barrett’s Esophagus, Biliary Disease, pancreatic cysts, gastrointestinal bleeding, and gastrointestinal cancers. The region’s hospitals highly seek the doctor’s knowledge and skills.
Dr. Chakrabarty is well recognized and highly regarded as the first GI doctor in Southern California’s Inland Empire, establishing his practice over 43 years ago. The Inland Empire comprises San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. He and his fellow colleagues and staff have made compassionate patient care a core element of the practice. Additionally, the world-class facility utilizes state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat patients. There are no other ambulatory surgical centers in the region that compare with the equipment available to its patients.
The Passion for Medicine Runs Deep
His passion for medicine began early on. Dr. Milan Chakrabarty was born in Kolkata and raised in Mumbai, India, and comes from a long line of physicians. His father, grandfather, and three uncles were all family physicians, inspiring Dr. Chakrabarty to follow suit. During his childhood, you could find the young Chakrabarty assisting his father in his family practice. His mother also played an important hand in his education by tutoring him.
Dr. Chakrabarty’s Medical Education
Milan Chakrabarty, MD, attended Grand Medical School College, Mumbai University, where he received his M.B.B.S. (MD equivalent) and did his medical internship at JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai University. His residency was at St. George Hospital, Mumbai, Subspecialty Medical Resident Rotations at G.T. Hospital, Mumbai.
After his residency, Dr. Chakrabarty moved to England and Swansea, South Wales, where he remained in Internal Medicine at Mount Pleasant Hospital, Cardiff University for three years.
From the United Kingdom to the United States
From Swansea, South Wales, Dr. Milan Chakrabarty, his wife, and two children came to the United States, where he worked as a Resident Physician at Metropolitan Jewish Medical Center in Coney Island, New York. He also was an Internal Medicine Resident at St. Clare’s Hospital & Health Center in Manhattan.
Dr. Chakrabarty did his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center & Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Move Out West
In the early 1980s, Dr. Chakrabarty moved to Hemet, California, where he founded the GI Department at Hemet Valley Medical Center. He was the first Hospice Medical Director in Sun City, California, in 1982.
In 1992, Dr. Chakrabarty built the Hemet Endoscopy Center and founded the Hemacinto Medical Group a year later. In 2004, he built a new medical center and state-of-the-art surgery center.
Milan Chakrabarty, MD, is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. His professional writings include co-authoring the “Determination of Circulating DNA Levels in Patients with Benign or Malignant Gastrointestinal Disease, Cancer.”
He has held seminars in his areas of specialty, including at the Hemet Daze Community Health Education and Screening Fair on “Colon Cancer Awareness.” He was a guest speaker at the Hemet Rotary Club on bowel cancer, “Regaining & Ensuring Intestinal Health GI Problems: What Can You Do?”
A Family Tradition of Physicians and Promoting Healthy Living Continues
Dr. Chakrabarty has been married to his wife, Manjushree, for 52 years. They have three sons, two of whom are physicians. His eldest son Arun Chakrabarty MD. is an Internist. His 2nd son, Indraneel Chakrabarty MD., was trained at Boston Univ and Lahey Clinic. Practicing in Temecula, California. He is the only Advanced Interventional Gastroenterologist in the Inland Empire, California. Dr Milan Chakrabarty and his youngest son, Devashish Chakrabarty, founded the Wellness carbonated beverage “TURVEDA.” The drink is made primarily of herbs based on Ayurvedic medicine and contains scientifically backed ingredients to improve digestive health and boost immunity. It provides nearly 20% of one’s daily fiber and all the benefits in a wellness shot instead of the sugar and citric acid in traditional sodas.

Enjoying Down Time
Milan S. Chakrabarty, MD, enjoys collecting European antiques, sculptures, and paintings when not practicing medicine. His passion for European art and sculpture is proudly on display within and outside the offices of GI Excellence. He also loves cars and stamp collections. Dr. Chakrabarty also enjoys photography, traveling, and boating and has taken up painting.
